SCANDI YACHTS HISTORY

Nils Luoma among others, founded the company in the end of 1979 to meet the demand on special designed one-off cruising sailboats. Luoma is a veteran within the boatbuilding industry. He started his boatbuilding career working for Nautor and was also one of the founders of Baltic Yachts (1973). With Luoma’s solid knowledge, great experience of boat life and high requirements on quality, he has established a trustworthy company.

THE SCANDI CONCEPT
The Scandi Concept is a sailboat model with deckhouse. What is special about the deckhouse is that it gives you a 360° visibility even from the cockpit which is a great advantage in sailing context. One can sit protected from weather and wind, yet with a full view of everything that happens outside. Furthermore, the boat is conveniently equipped for long-term stay.

DESIGN
These boats were developed from idea to finished product by Scandi Yachts in collaboration with naval architect Ulf Rögeberg at the helm and the local designer Tor Hinders. Rögeberg himself is an experienced and skilled sailor from Norway, known for drawing fast hulls with well-functioned deck arrangements, efficient rigs and sailing plan.
The basic idea in planning the Scandi Concept was to develop a pleasant and practical sailboat to live in under extended trips at sea. In the deckhouse one can sit indoors protected from weather and wind yet with a full view of everything that happens outside.

CONSTRUCTION

INVISION was built in Tehtaankatu, Finland under rigid standards; Vacuum bagging technique was used at the factory build of the FRP hull to highest standards using glass-fiber, balsa, synthetic resin sandwich; built by alternating layers of fiberglass mat and biaxial cloth hand laid within a female mold utilizing high-grade iso-phantholic polyester resin as a laminating agent.
ACCOMMODATIONS

Accommodations include two double cabins and two heads. Behind the forward chain locker watertight bulkhead is the forward master cabin. This cabin has an center-line raised island queen bed with storage compartments under wood liner and shelves on the side. Port and starboard fixed side port lights and overhead hatch provide natural light. Port and starboard single settees and hanging lockers are fitted. A full bulkhead with doorway separates the master cabin from an enclosed head compartment fitted to port

There is a lower galley to starboard. A full pantry, shelves and lockers are fitted. The refrigeration and freezer system is the efficient Glacier Bay Micro HPS system.

Heading up four removable steps (with house batteries under) one enters the central main salon. A raised U-shaped dinette arrangement is placed to starboard with comfortable seating for four and a high/low table mounted on double pedestals. Across the way is a forward-facing, sit-down navigation station of reasonable size with side storage lockers and drawers behind. The head room in the main salon is over 6 ft.

Heading aft down and after to a starboard rounded stairwell is the aft crew compartment fitted with port and starboard pipe berths and separated by a central box housing a washer and dryer and space for a generator. Hanging locker and enclosed head locker separated by a bureau are fitted. The interior has cherry wood cabinetry and trim, white vinyl overhead with halogen cabin lighting and royal blue velour cushions
