San Francisco Bay is set inland from the Pacific Coast, stretching north and south some 50 miles and embracing a region of over 7.5 million people.

Climate

The shores of the San Francisco Bay enjoy a Mediterranean climate with a wet season (November to March) and dry season (May to October) June is apt to be sunny., In July and August, a cool fog usually hugs the coast and drifts past the Golden Gate, and temperatures can vary widely during this time. September and October are the warmest months of the year coast side when offshore winds push the fog seaward, and temperatures often rise in the 70s and 80s under clear skies. This is when the Bay Area is at its best. Winter usually brings relatively mild temperatures, the 40s to high 60s.

The valley nestled between Telegraph Hill and Russian Hill is known as North Beach, but it don’t look for the beach. There is none. The Cover and beach were filled in back in the 1870s. Once a thriving Italian immigrant neighborhood, it still has some of its old flavor.
